Undercover operations can range from short-term “in and outs” to long-term “deeply embedded operations. Whether they are short-term or long-term, an undercover operation is an investigative technique, in which it's ok to lie about your identity but not about your purpose. It is this element of very legal deception that can get you hurt or killed no matter the length and depth of the assignment.
